How a virus spreads
A strain is a pump.fun coin that picks a host. Every wave its creator fees buy it and dose it into wallets that hold the host, into KOL wallets and into other strains' holders. Part of every wave buys $VIRUS and burns it; $VIRUS buys strains back.
01Overview
Strain: a normal pump.fun coin paired with SOL. It trades on its bonding curve and on PumpSwap after graduation, so every terminal and aggregator can buy it. There is no route to walk and no host token to hold first.
Host: any Solana coin the strain spreads into, chosen at release: a coin with at least $5,000 of liquidity, $VIRUS, or another strain. The host needs to do nothing; its holders just start receiving doses.
Vial: the strain's creator wallet. It is a fresh wallet the lab runs (key encrypted at rest), so pump.fun's creator fees can be claimed and spent automatically. The deployer's own wallet signs the launch and is never held by the site.
| Stage | What happens | Who |
|---|---|---|
| Release | The deployer's wallet signs a pump.fun create_v2 and the optional first buy in the same transaction. The creator is the new vial. | dev |
| Trade | Everyone trades the strain on pump.fun. Each trade pays pump.fun's creator fee into the vial. | traders |
| Wave | Every few minutes the keeper claims the vial and splits the SOL into route buckets. | keeper |
| Routes | Each bucket that reached its minimum fires: buys, doses, burns, payouts. | keeper |
| Scan | Every dosed wallet is re-read from chain and gets its infection status. | keeper |
02Routes: where fees go
Every claimed SOL is split into buckets. A bucket fires when it holds enough to be worth a transaction, so a small strain still moves, just less often.
A strain's fees
Patient zero's fees ($VIRUS)
03Waves
- A wave runs every 180 s for every live coin. Patient zero goes last, so strains' ZERO buys land before its FEED.
- A vial is claimed once it holds at least 0.02 SOL of unclaimed fees. The lab's ops wallet pays the claim's network fee.
- Buy and burn routes fire at 0.01 SOL, dose routes at 0.02 SOL, SOL payouts at 0.01 SOL.
- A new strain's vial keeps a small gas reserve (0.004 SOL) out of its first claim for its own transactions.
- Buys go to the bonding curve, then PumpSwap after graduation, with Jupiter as the fallback.
04Doses: who gets infected
A dose route buys the strain, then splits exactly what it bought into equal doses and sends them. The route pays each recipient's token account rent (about 0.002 SOL); at most half of a dose bucket goes to rent.
| Route | Targets | Per wave |
|---|---|---|
| Spread | Real wallets holding at least $20 of the host ($2 when the host is a strain), never dosed with this strain before. Weighted by the square root of their host position: broad, real bags first. Big hosts are sampled by a random owner shard each scan. | up to 10 |
| KOL | Known KOL wallets from a public leaderboard, never dosed with this strain before. | up to 4 |
| Cross | This coin's own holders, weighted by bag, receive another strain: the parent when the host is a strain, otherwise a live strain picked by activity. | up to 6 |
One dose per wallet per strain, ever. Program-owned accounts (pools, curves), vials and the lab are never dosed. If a host runs out of wallets to infect, SPREAD doses KOLs instead, and when nobody is left the bought tokens are burned.
05Infection states and R
| Status | Meaning |
|---|---|
| infected | Dosed less than an hour ago and still holds about the dose. |
| carrier | Held the dose for an hour or more. |
| symptomatic | Holds more than 1.5× the dose: bought more. |
| immune | Holds less than half the dose: sold or moved it. |
R = (infected + carriers + symptomatic) ÷ immune. Above 1, more wallets keep the dose than dump it: the strain is spreading. Below 1 it is burning out.
06Patient zero: $VIRUS
$VIRUS is the root. Every strain's ZERO route buys it and burns it. Its own fees run the reverse routes: FEED buys a live strain and burns it, CROSS buys a strain and doses $VIRUS holders with it, and it spreads itself to KOLs and host holders like any strain.
Until $VIRUS is released, every strain's ZERO bucket fills and waits. The first wave after it launches buys it all at once.
07Release, step by step
- Pick a host: a suggested coin, any coin by ticker or mint, $VIRUS, or a live strain (the new strain is one generation deeper).
- Name, ticker (up to 13 bytes), picture, optional line and links.
- Optional first buy in SOL.
- Your wallet signs ONE transaction: the
create_v2and your first buy together (a v0 transaction with an address lookup table). Nothing can land between the launch and your buy, so no sniper gets in before the dev. - It costs rent, about 0.005 SOL, plus your first buy. The strain's page is its pump.fun website.
08Verify it on chain
- Every strain page links its vial. Its history shows the claims, the buys, the burns and the doses.
- Every route that fired is logged with its transaction signatures under the strain's Bloodstream tab.
- Burned amounts show as a lower supply on any explorer.
- Dosed wallets and their balances are listed per strain and re-read from chain every few minutes.
09Risks and honest limits
- Custody. Vials are wallets the lab runs, not a program. The lab holds their keys to claim and spend fees automatically. It cannot touch a deployer's wallet or anyone's tokens.
- Dosed wallets may dump. A dose is free tokens; some wallets sell them. That is what R measures. Wallet apps may hide unknown tokens as spam.
- Rent. Every new recipient costs about 0.002 SOL of account rent, paid from the dose bucket, and the recipient can reclaim it by closing the account.
- Sybils. Holding the host with many wallets to farm doses costs more than a dose is worth: $20 of host per wallet, one dose per wallet per strain.
- Keeper. A slow or paused keeper only delays waves: fees keep waiting in pump.fun until claimed.
- Beta. This is a beta. Splits and thresholds may change for new waves.
10FAQ
How is this different from a parasite?
A parasite is priced in its host and burns it. A strain trades in SOL like any pump.fun coin, and instead of burning the host it spreads through the host's holders, then feeds $VIRUS and other strains.
Why would a host holder like this?
They receive free doses of every strain released on their coin.
Where is my dev share?
Paid in SOL to the wallet that released the strain, every time the DEV bucket passes 0.01 SOL.
What if the site goes down?
The strains keep trading on pump.fun. Fees wait in pump.fun until the keeper is back.
